About West Ashley
West Ashley South Carolina is a stone's throw from downtown Charleston, just across the Ashley River. This section of Charleston is a charming area to live, work, and play. Highway 17 runs through the heart of West Ashley connecting it with southern and northern points of interest. Along the shores of the Ashley River you will find lovely wooden lots with trees draped with the local gray, Spanish Moss. There are several strip malls along Highway 17 for easy and convenient shopping. Citadel Mall is at the southern end of West Ashley featuring all the well known chain stores. There are many sprawling neighborhoods that attract both the young and young at heart. This area is perfect for first time residents and long timers. When traveling south on Highway 17 make a turn onto Wappoo Road and enjoy the beautifully lined street with century old trees and sprawling homes. At Wappoo's end there is nestled a small community of homes surrounded by the Ashley River's scenic views. Many restaurants are dotted up and down the streets featuring the local seafood cuisine. Bessinger's is a long time local favorite, famous for their mustard style barbeque. West Ashley is close to the beaches and downtown Charleston but far enough away to enjoy the ease of living in this southern city. Folly Beach is only a few miles away and is the closest public beach to West Ashley. West Ashley South Carolina is a great place to live and visit.
